A postdoctoral position is available in the PolyZymes Group – Multifunctional Protein-Polymer Hybrids
Research Line – at the Basque Center for Macromolecular Design and Engineering, POLYMAT
Fundazioa, and University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU)
The project endeavors the design and fabrication of functional materials based on protein-polymer
hybrids and non-conventional solvents, i.e., eutectic mixtures. Developed methodologies will be
applied to the stabilization of plastic-eating enzymes, to cofactor-dependent enzymes, and to the
fabrication of biomineralized scaffolds for biomedical applications.
Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent) in applied Polymer Science, Chemistry, or Enzymology.
Knowledge of protein modification grafting-from methods is desired, including bio-RAFT or PET-RAFT.
Applicants should have a strong record of innovative scientific accomplishments as evidenced by firstauthor
papers published or accepted in internationally recognized journals. Qualified candidates must
also demonstrate outstanding communication skills, have a strong passion and commitment to
science, and work well within a group. A good command of written and spoken English is a must. If
preselected, a telephone or online interview will be carried out before any other appointment is
made.
The selected candidate is expected to conduct research, write papers, reports, and proposals, and
establish collaborations with partner institutions. The position involves the supervision of PhD
students and undergraduates. Applications should be addressed to Dr. Ana Beloqui and sent via e-mail
with the subject ‘Postdoc Protein-functional materials’ in one single PDF to ana.beloquie@ehu.eus
before October 15th, 2024. It is recommended that applications are made as soon as possible as they
will be considered upon arrival. They must include:
(i) a cover letter highlighting their interest in the position and the main research achievements.
(ii) curriculum vitae.
(iii) a short description of previous research (2-3 pages).
(iv) the names and contact addresses (e-mail) of two academic referees.
It should be noted that only those applications that followed these guidelines will be considered!
Please note that because of the large number of applications expected, we will not be able to give
individual feedback to unsuccessful applications.
POLYMAT and UPV/EHU have obtained the ‘HR Excellence in Research award‘. The award reflects our
commitment to continuously improve our human resource policies in line with the European Charter
for Researchers, the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, and our commitment to
achieving fair and transparent recruitment and appraisal procedures.
